Good morning!

Grab a cup of coffee, and let’s sit down for a bit. Last week, we started shaping those big, bold goals for 2024. If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by what you’re planning to accomplish this year, then take a nice deep breath because we’re going to start making that goal much more realistic, right… about… now.

Today, let’s talk about the nuts and bolts of turning those goals into your daily reality. It’s like building a bridge from where you are now to where you want to be.

Think of your goal as a destination. You wouldn’t set off on a long journey without a map, right? Our ‘Goals to Done’ framework is just that – a map to guide you. It’s about breaking down that big, sometimes intimidating goal into smaller, more manageable parts. It looks a little something like this…

An approach like this changes our perspective on that giant, intimidating mountain of a goal (“I’m going to hit 6-figures by December 31st, working 4 hours a day, 4 days a week!”). Instead of being overwhelmed by its enormity, we can shift our focus. We can, instead concentrate on just the next step… the one right in front of us. By taking these steps one at a time, we’ll find ourselves at the top of the mountain by the end of the year.

So, let’s jump into that first step today, defining our…

Let’s break down the year into quarters. Each quarter is a checkpoint, a moment to pause and see how far you’ve come and if you’re on track to hit that goal.

Let’s stick with that example goal from above: $100k in revenue by December 31st, working 4 hours a day, 4 days a week.

So, we just need to make $25k each Quarter, right?

Well… yeah, but… how realistic is that?

If we only made $25k all year in 2023, can we really expect to hit that same goal in the first quarter of 2024 (in our slow season, no less)? Nah, let’s build ourselves a bit of an onramp, instead.

With a goal like the one above, I’d say you should try something like:

This allows us to build our way up to that goal we’ve set while taking advantage of the compounding effect of all the work we’ll put in throughout the year.

Phone a friend and rope them into invite them to join you for coffee while you both break down your SMART Goals into those 4 quarterly checkpoints. Don’t worry about diving deeper yet (in fact, I’d highly suggest you wait for next week before going any deeper!). Really… get someone (or lots of someone’s) in on this with you, it’ll be much more productive and a lot more enjoyable.

(Bonus points if you tell them to subscribe to this newsletter through this convenient little link that I just happened to place here so they can get the same info you’re getting and follow along with you…)

Looking forward to catching up next week!

We’ll jump into the rest of the framework and get your first 3 monthly projects and first 4 weekly tasks nailed down so you never sit down at the computer wondering, “how the heck am I going to grow this business today?”.

Remember, every journey begins with a single step. You’ve got this.

Chris PS – Forreals though. Could you do me a favor and invite your photography peers to join you through this goal setting and planning journey? Just send them over to https://swiftgalleries.com/newsletter. It helps us tremendously in being able to provide resources like this for free.

Good morning!
